Ajit Doval is a retired Indian intelligence and law enforcement officer who currently serves as the National Security Advisor (NSA) to the Prime Minister of India. He was born on January 20, 1945, in Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand, India. Doval is considered one of India’s most experienced intelligence officers and has played a vital role in shaping India’s national security policy over the years.

Doval grew up in a humble family and completed his education from the Ajmer Military School and the University of Agra. After completing his education, Doval joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1968 and was assigned to the Kerala cadre. During his time in Kerala, he served as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Thalassery and Kannur, where he gained a reputation for his tough stance against the extremist elements in the region.

In 1981, Doval was appointed as the head of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) operations in Mizoram, where he played a crucial role in ending the insurgency in the state. He used a combination of military, intelligence, and diplomatic measures to end the insurgency, which had been ongoing since the 1960s. His success in Mizoram earned him a promotion to the rank of Joint Director of the IB.

In 1986, Doval was sent to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan, as a secret agent, where he gathered crucial intelligence about Pakistan’s nuclear program. He spent six years in Pakistan and played a key role in gathering intelligence about Pakistan’s efforts to acquire nuclear weapons, which helped India to counter Pakistan’s nuclear program effectively.

 

In 1999, Doval played a crucial role in the Kargil War, which was fought between India and Pakistan. He was appointed as the director of the Intelligence Bureau, and he played a key role in gathering intelligence about the infiltrators and their plans. His intelligence inputs were crucial in India’s success in the Kargil War.
