Many people have doubts whether an image can be resized without losing its quality. Luckily, it can be!!  In this blog, you will be shown, how to resize images to make them larger without losing quality.

Firstly, let’s address the question of why do images lose quality when they are enlarged?

Well, Bitmap is a highly used image format on the web, which is by far the most popular. All your PNG and JPEG files are Bitmap image files.

ABOUT PIXELS:

Each of the pixels is plotted on a fixed location on the picture, hence its named Bitmap.

Most of the image editing software enlarge or shrink these pixels to resize the given image. That is why when you actually resize an image to a size smaller than that, there is no visible loss of quality. Mainly, the reason being that those pixels become very less visible.

In the other case, when you enlarge an image, these resized pixels become much more visible which makes the image to look pixelated and blur.

SOLUTION:

Well, the solution is quite easy. you need to compensate for each enlarged pixel, so that it can match the properties of the nearest pixel. The method is popularly known as Fractal Interpolation or simply Fractals. It is known to produce a much better result when an image is actually enlarged using this technique.
