OLD METHOD OF FINDING A LOST MOBILE:

This method is really useful for them whose phones don’t have a WIFI turned on or network isn’t available when you lost your phone. This is when you can revert back to the tried and trusted method: Include your name and contact information on the lock screen of your phone, so that anyone who gets your phone, would immediately get to know whom to call.

This method can also be applied by taking a photo of your contact details with your phone and then selecting it as your mobile’s home screen.

You can design something more interesting and creative, then upload it from your computer too. Remember, this might give you a quicker response from some people who randomly find your lost phone, if the person isn’t a criminal.

Now, let’s move on to the guideline for specific phone users:

FOR WINDOWS PHONE:

As a matter of fact, the Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 offers a quite identical service like that of Android’s Device Manager called ‘Find My Phone’.

You just need to log in to Windows Phone using the Microsoft ID and password you have. eventually you will get the option to locate your phone, call it, or erase all the data.

FOR ANDROID PHONE:

Google had recently updated its Android OS and had added a new feature called Android Device Manager. It helps the Android smartphone owners to find their stolen or categorically lost smartphones and tablets.

This Device Manager is by default activated through the Google Settings app. The locator feature is enabled from first, and also there is an opt-in feature that allows you to remotely lock the device or erase your data.

Well, to use the locator feature, you need to visit the Android Device Manager online and next, log in with your Google account.

You should get a prompt asking for permission whether to allow Android Device Manager to use location data or not.

FOR I-PHONE:

You need to go to the Settings, tap on iCloud, and enable the ‘Find My iPhone’ mode.

Then if you eventually misplace your phone, you can luckily sign in to iCloud from any PC or web-enabled device.

‘Find My iPhone’ would show you where your missing iPhone actually is, on a map or would play a sound to help you locate your mobile if it’s at all nearby.

This in-built app also includes ‘Lost Mode’. If the iPhone is missing, you can immediately lock your mobile with a 4-digit password and send a message that would display a contact number on your mobile’s home screen. iOS 7, Apple has eventually added another layer of security. Now to turn off Find My iPhone or to erase your device you require your Apple ID and password. Well, this has been done to combat the increasing threat of the iPhone thieves, who intend to sell it.
